DAUGHTERS OF NORWAY EXPLORE SCANDINAVIAN CLOTHING
Nordic clothing continually changes as fashions and times dictate. Members explore the changing fashions at their meetings. Some lodges form groups that work on recreating Viking fashions, while others work on making Norwegian National Costumes (called bunads) or folk costumes (folkedrakt including Swedish folklore fashions). Others get together and knit Nordic sweaters. Some teach classes in these various areas, while other members have made a business out of doing this.
Several women have learned needlecrafts, weaving, etc. and either use traditional designs or create their own designs with a Nordic influence. Fashion shows with the current fashion trends from Norway are presented at meetings, gatherings and conventions and have included Oleana Sweaters (Norway, Helly Hansen footwear & clothing (Norway), Moods of Norway, and more.
Lodges sometimes invite Nordic-American jewelers to come and demonstrate their crafts as well as offering members a chance to share their precious Scandinavian jewelry with others. Members may share articles they purchased on a recent Scandinavian trip.
