Daughters of Norway

There are many excellent educational opportunities offered in Scandinavia which offer international educational experiences. University level students in the United States should check with their school's international study abroad programs to find out more about the opportunities available through their school. Two excellent sites for post-secondary educational opportunities in the five main Scandinavian countries:

• Norden — lists universities and technical schools in the Nordic countries [use the Hello Norden link for all countries]
• The American-Scandinavian Foundation's Academic Programs site — lists information on programs to all Nordic countries

Each major city in Scandinavia has some excellent programs. Summer only programs also are fun to take! For example, the excellent summer offering at the University of Oslo called the International Summer School (ISS) affords students with at least one year of college the chance to explore Norway and make international friendships. Most classes (with the exception of advanced Norwegian classes) are taught in English. Educational offerings focus on learning more about Norway while making world-wide friendships due to the international composition of the students. Excursions are also offered as part of this program which allow you to see the highlights of Norway. Look online for additional schools offering such programs in the city of your choice.

Norwegian programs include:

• Norwegian Professional Schools & Universities — a good listing of schools with links (most sites in Norwegian).
• Other Norwegian Higher Educational Institutions — a listing of regional, public junior colleges (some are now listed as universities) & technical schools with links (most sites in Norwegian but many have English available on their site).
• NORGESKOLEN — an all-Norwegian program for 9–18 year olds in Norway. The school affords Norwegian parents (usually living abroad) a chance to have their children stay connected to their Norwegian language and cultural heritage. It consists of a three week program in Norway for various school age students (grouped into these age divisions: 9–12 year olds; 12–15 year olds, and 15–18 year olds). The school is run by Nordmanns­Forbundet (The Norse Federation).
